Nestlé has officially opened its Shared Business Service Centre in L’viv, Ukraine. The centre will provide standard and cost-effective internal financial and employee services to Nestlé operating companies in more than 20 countries in Central and Eastern Europe.
As the fifth centre of its kind set up by Nestlé since 2006, Ukraine joins Brazil, the Philippines, Ghana, and a satellite centre in Egypt, in providing a single location from which to complete specific activities such as employee payroll and invoicing.
Proservartner Point of View: This move was first announced by us in Sept 2010 Nestle set up shared services in Ukraine and the centre has now been officially opened. Whilst the local infrastructure, talent potential, real estate, office space availability and cost competitiveness have been cited as reasons for the location selection, there will be a number of challenges relating to the immaturity of L’viv as a Shared Services and Outsourcing locations:
- People: The skills required in shared services and outsourcing can be a challenge in a city where there are plenty of talented resources but a lack of shared services / BPO skills. In an environment unlike traditional finance, it is beneficial to hire staff (especially at management levels) with strong shared services / BPO experience
- Responsiveness: For cities that have long served Shared Service Centres and BPO delivery centres, there is an appreciation of the speed at which organisations need to Go Live. This can include setting up leadership team visits with the Mayor, finding appropriate facilities in a short timeframe that meet the needs of a “Nestle”, and aiding the IT infrastructure and application requirements from design to implementation in a few months
- Access to language skills: Given the coverage required across Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia, it will be a challenge to obtain all of the language skills to Go Live on day 1!
