French drugmaker Sanofi stated that it has appointed Greg Irace to the newly created role of senior vice president, global services. Irace, 53, is currently president and CEO of Sanofi’s U.S. operations. He will be responsible in his new role for shared support functions across all Sanofi North American businesses and will help develop a global strategy for shared services.
Proservartner Point of View: Sanofi, headquartered in Paris, is a multinational pharmaceutical company, and the world’s fourth-largest by prescription sales. Sanofi engages in the research and development, manufacturing and marketing of pharmaceutical products for sale principally in the prescription market, but the firm also develops over-the-counter medication and was formed in 2004 through the merger of Aventis and Sanofi-Synthelabo. The company is driving towards the “Global Business Services” model for shared services, with the IT, Finance, HR and Payroll functions being in scope of the services. The key challenge will be to set up the governance and manage the change to ensure a sustainable movement away from a silo functional model towards a service orientated, multi functional GBS model.
